Liam Shalon

I am fascinated by complex software systems. In high school, I built design systems, launched apps, and worked for startups like DoorDash. My curiosity led me to the world of ML, deploying algorithms that predicted stock market moves, NYC cab tips, help chronic pain patients, and even attempted to decode people's dreams using EEG recordings. Now, I work at Level, a firm that uses data to find alpha in the private markets. In my spare time, I continue to research the human brain, markets, and experiment with new software technologies.

2014

Launched FrameMonkey, the first GIF creator on iOS. Sold an NLP app.

2015

Cold emailed Stanley Tang asking to work at DoorDash. Worked there in design sophomore year of high school. I was 15, Stanley was 22.

2016-18

Worked at various startups leading design.

2018

Studied computer science, with an emphasis on data science and ML.

2020

Joined Eric Leuthardt's lab, applying my ML skillset to brain-computer interfaces.

2021

Joined Albert at Level to build the first algorithms that would power our fund-of-funds strategy.

2022

Scaled our datasets and algorithms across companies, private market transactions, scientific publications, GitHub contributions, job history.

2023

Led the efforts to build a consumer app and ETL management incubation. Built the first iteration of our core algorithm model that relied on deep learning and GAT architecture.

2024

Built Level's unstructured pipeline, which integrates all of our unstructured knowledge into our structured data, giving us a powerful 360 view of companies, market narratives, and the people who drive them.

2025

Level Fund II launches.

I consider routine exercise one of my hobbies and spend my social hours with friends I've known for more than half my life.
